Chinese traditional massage, also known as tuina, has its origin in ancient China and is based on the TCM theory, which focuses the balancing of Qi, the body’s vital life force or energy. The therapeutic effect of tuina is achieved through promoting balance and harmony within the body and enhancing blood and qi circulation. Targeting particular acupoints is similar to acupuncture, but practitioners stimulate these points with pressure rather than needles. Tuina is similar to other Eastern types of massage that focus on balancing the flow of energy within the body. However, It differs from Western massage therapies, though, in that practitioners can apply it to treat a variety of different health issues, not just those related to musculoskeletal condition.
